I was in my mid-fifties, when one night I dreamed I was a Fairy Woman named Granny Root. In my dream, I arose from my bed of moss and walked from the woods into the city. I had a magic walking stick. My clothes were made of scraps of fabric and leaves woven together with spider webs. I traveled here and there, helping people see the wondrous magic of the world.
When I awoke from my dream, I knew Granny Root would become a big part of my life. I used to walk through the woods often to re-focus and reconnect, but after the dream, a story would grow in my head with each visit. It became quite an adventure! My child within was wide awake!
As a grandmother, spiritual counselor, and former teacher, I saw this as a great opportunity to communicate affirmation and hope to new generations. Granny Root has been telling the stories around the fire for several years now and people of all ages have gathered to hear them. It seemed everyone needed to believe in the magic again! Thus, the Granny Root Chronicles was born.
So, I am here, still gathering stories from Fairies to share with you.
“My name is Aurelia Root, though most call me Granny. I live deep in Nagala’s woods under the roots of an old oak tree. There, I sleep on my bed of moss, under my blanket of leaves. I sleep until it’s time to find a new tale or until someone needs to hear one. I love to tell stories! I will tell them for hours to those who will listen. There are so many tales because I have lived a long time, have had many adventures, and have met many remarkable characters.
Through all my travels, I have learned three very important things. The first is, everyone is a curious, adventurous child deep down inside and likes a good tale, even if they are 100 years old! The second is, there are countless mysteries for us to discover right here on Earth. Everything is made of magic, and we all know that magic and mysteries make the best stories. I bet you could tell a few good tales yourself! The third is, there are more worlds than this, if you know where to look. Some are hidden around the edges of this one and others are tucked in between. Some have talking animals. Others are where the fairies live. Children are born knowing this, but as they get older, they forget. So, I tell them a story and they travel with me in their minds and remember. No one is too old to have adventures in other worlds. My stories are for children of all ages.
